Transforming Upparel’s New Site into a Smart, Secure & Fully Managed Facility.

When Upparel moved into its new site, they weren’t just looking for “someone to set up the internet”. As a fast-growing textile recycling business, they needed an IT partner that could design, build and run a secure, modern environment end-to-end – from the warehouse floor to the boardroom, and everything in between.

Managed Services Australia was engaged to uplift Upparel’s technology and security standards across the entire facility. That meant fixing long-standing issues, eliminating blind spots, removing single points of failure, and putting in place a platform that will support the business for years to come.

Here’s a summary of how we helped Upparel modernise and secure their new facility:

Like many high-growth organisations, Upparel was facing a mix of issues that had built up over time:

• Patchy wireless coverage in key operational areas
• Limited visibility over who was coming and going at different doors and exits
• Ad-hoc support processes that made it hard for staff to know who to call or how issues were being tracked
• A growing mix of laptops, tablets and other devices without centralised management
• Increasing cyber risk as more systems, apps and data moved online

They needed a partner who could step back, look at the whole picture – network, security, physical access, collaboration, devices – and design something cohesive, secure and manageable.

We began by building a solid network backbone to support everything on site.

The new environment now has:

• Segmented networks separating business, warehouse and guest traffic
• Dedicated network cabinets located strategically across the facility
• Structured cabling and high-capacity links between cabinets for performance and reliability
• Intelligent switching to power and connect cameras, wireless access points and security devices

On top of this, we designed a full wireless deployment, placing access points throughout:

• Office areas
• Warehouse aisles and production zones
• Loading docks and staff spaces

The result is straightforward for staff: wherever they need to work, their devices connect reliably.

Each cabinet also includes power protection to help keep core systems running through short outages and reduce the risk of sudden shutdowns.

To support day-to-day work and collaboration, we standardised Upparel’s office technology.

Workstations were set up with a consistent layout and dual displays to make everyday tasks simpler and more efficient. Where older hardware caused issues, we replaced or adjusted the setup so each user ended up with a stable, reliable experience.

Key meeting spaces were upgraded into video-enabled rooms that:

• Connect directly to Upparel’s existing calendar and meeting platform
• Allow one-touch joining of online meetings
• Clearly display room availability outside each space

Staff can now book a room in their calendar, walk in, tap once and start presenting – without needing IT support in the room. We backed this with easy, visual user guides so new team members can get comfortable quickly.

Physical security is critical for a busy warehouse and production environment, so we implemented a fully integrated solution.

A site-wide camera system now covers:

• Office entrances and key internal areas
• Warehouse aisles and sorting/production spaces
• Loading docks, truck movements and external yards
• Car parks and the broader perimeter

Footage is recorded to a central system, and access is restricted based on role, so only authorised staff can view or download recordings when needed.

We also deployed a combined access control and alarm system that:

• Controls who can access specific doors and zones, and at what times
• Monitors movement and door status after hours
• Automatically arms and disarms based on working hours
• Sends alerts if emergency exits or key doors are forced or left open

A video intercom at the main entrance ties into this, allowing staff to see and speak to visitors and remotely unlock the door when appropriate.

Once the project build was complete, Upparel moved onto our Total Care managed IT plan.

Under Total Care, we:

• Monitor and support covered laptops, network devices and key systems
• Provide remote and on-site support during business hours
• Manage patches and updates to help close security gaps
• Perform proactive checks and provide regular reporting and roadmap guidance

To further uplift cyber security, we overlaid Managed Detection & Response (MDR) across core systems. MDR adds:

• 24/7 monitoring of security events
• Rapid detection of suspicious behaviour
• Expert response and investigation support

In practice, Upparel now benefits from the protection of a dedicated security team, without needing to build one internally.
